A man has been extradited from NSW and charged over the attempted kidnapping of a 15-year-old girl in a Victorian border town.

Police will allege the teen was walking through Cobram's showgrounds on Thursday when she was attacked. She managed to escape and was taken to hospital.

A 30-year-old man was arrested in Barooga, NSW, about 9pm and extradited to Victoria on Friday.

He will appear in the Shepparton Magistrates' Court on July 18 on charges relating to abduction for the purpose of sexual penetration, kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment.
