US woman travels to Australia to find mystery footy player she met on a flight five years ago

An American woman is following her heart and flying to the other side of the globe to track down an Aussie rules player she met in Australia five years ago.

The only problem is the 37-year-old doesn't know his name or where to find him, so she's launched a social media campaign to help find the mystery man.

The Roller derby coach and retired skater, Bonnie Beck, met the Aussie on a flight Down Under in 2012 on her way to national coaching event.

"I met a man who I *really* felt," she wrote on her Facebook page yesterday.

"He was a tall, blonde, #australianfootballer. I was a short, brunette #american #rollerderbyplayer."

Meeting Beck, who is also known in the roller derby community as Bonnie D. Stroir, shouldn't be too difficult for the blond to recall, as she is heavily tattooed and has a big personality.

While his name escapes her, the San Diego Derby Dolls founder said she remembered some clues about her unknown love interest that could help her search.

"I do remember: he's smart, funny, and has a #smile that could light up my whole life."

He told her his birthday was in December - the same month as her own, and he was from Melbourne.

She also recalled he said he had tried out as a kicker in the NFL.

The woman, who lists her interests as “Love, adventure, seeing how awesome I can get in one lifetime,” said she was waiting for the right moment to return to Australia to take the risk and "find this man who left such a big impression on me."

"I've been told that we live in a #universe that will give you any experience you #desire, as long as you lift your side first," she wrote.

"It may have been years ago, but I've been feeling him ever since, #waiting this whole time for #therightmoment to go to #AU and find him."

She said she has tried every Google search to track him down but every time has come up with nothing.

"In a few days I will take a #crazyrisk and fly to #thelanddownunda with no plan, not sure where to start or how. Will you #helpmefindhim?" she asked her followers.

The roller derby community has been quick to help, doing their own internet searches to help Beck find her mystery man.

Some have searched AFL rosters by birth month and shared pictures of blonds that meet the criteria, while others suggested the roller derby star could get in touch with AFL affiliate groups.

There have also been offers for places to stay while Beck pursues her search for the man who she hasn't been able to shake for five years.
