Cyclist rage: Video shows gymwear-clad man trying to kick rider off bike in unprovoked attack

Footage has surfaced of a cyclist appearing to be set upon by a raging pedestrian on a busy Melbourne road.

The clip, recorded on February 15 by the bike rider known only as Sean H, begins as he makes his way through traffic along King’s Way, South Melbourne, about 6.50pm.

He approaches a stretch of road near the United petrol station, when a man in gym-gear man standing on the side of the road can be seen running towards him.

Seconds later, the pedestrian sends a left-footed front kick the rider’s way to try and kick him off his bike.

Sean rides on without impact, but turns around to confront the man, who doesn’t appear to understand why the cyclist was angry.

"You're a f**kwit" the rider lets loose at the man, before telling him he has recorded the incident on camera and will be reporting it to the police.

"What for? What are you going to tell them?" the man asks.

After the pair exchange some expletives Sean rides away while his would-be attacker remains yelling.

Sharing his video on YouTube on February 22, Sean called the man a "lunatic".

“Just riding along Kings Way in Melbourne when a guy jumps off the footpath and tries to kick me off my bike in the middle of traffic,” Sean said.

He said South Melbourne Police were interested in talking to the man in the video “so if you recognise him please get in touch”.

Seven news Online has contacted police for comment.
