Bungling burglar flees Victorian pub after no staff answer his cries

Victoria police are looking for a man filmed slamming a blade on the counter of a bar in an attempted armed robbery only to leave empty handed when he couldn't get anyone's attention.

Police have released a video of the attempted robbery at a Wangaratta hotel on February 19.

The unknown man entered the Old Town and Country Tavern on the corner of Mason and Greta streets about 10.15pm carrying a plastic bag and a sharp object.

With his hoodie pulled tight over his head, the man walked toward a counter near the gaming room and banged the blade on the counter.

Failing to catch the attention of any staff, the man left shortly after.

A dark blue Holden Commodore sedan was spotted leaving the scene, police said in a statement.

Police are seeking a man described as 180 centimetres tall, wearing a red and blue flannelette jacket with a grey hood, yellow gloves and blue Adidas pants with white stripes down the side.
