Yahoo7 understands the 30-year-old man got out of a car naked and bloodied outside of the Boundary Hotel at about 7.30pm.

Photos taken by one of the customers show the man covered almost head-to-toe in blood and scratches as he crouched on the ground and walked on the road.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman told Yahoo7 the local man was detained and taken to hospital after a confrontation on the corner of Cooke and Dunstan St, Clayton, about nine kilometres from the hotel a short time later.

It is unclear how the man managed to make the long journey in a short amount of time.

"The man confronted the police members and rushed at them," the police spokeswoman said.

“At this point, OC Foam was deployed.

“Paramedics attended and the man was conveyed to hospital for treatment and assessment."

It is understood mental health issues are being considered as possibly related to the incident.

Police are yet to confirm whether the man was under the influence or drugs or alcohol at the time.

Pub staff said they were unaware of the incident when contacted by Yahoo7.
