Sex predator left trail of clues behind after raping teen in her bedroom in Melbourne's north
A sex predator left vital clues behind after he attacked a teenage girl in her home in Melbourne's north.
The man crept into the girl's bedroom in her Roxburgh Park Friday morning, subjecting the 16-year-old to a terrifying ordeal.
Items, believed to be clothing, were found discarded about 200 metres from the scene of the attack.
Her attacker, a man aged in his 20s, left a trail of evidence for sexual crimes squad detectives that could bring him undone.
Several CCTV cameras captured the man's movements in the minutes after he broke into the home through a kitchen window, walking to her bedroom where he raped her.
The lead up to the attack is less clear, but equally as disturbing.
Detective Senior Sergeant Jason Walsh said police are "very concerned because we believe this guy entered the house with a purpose, he's certainly not known to the victim, not known to the family, is very concerning to us".
"The victim is extremely traumatised, very upset. The family are devastated. They're rallying around her," he said.
"She's an extremely brave young girl, nobody deserves this. She was asleep in her own bed (where she was) sexually assaulted by this man."
Investigators walked around a block of houses on Monday along the offender's trail, trying to find witnesses and the balaclava he is believed to have discarded.
With the offender's face unmasked, his personal items discovered and his movements after the attack known, the police said the net is tightening around him.
