Daughter kills father in driveway tragedy

A daughter has accidentally run over and killed her own father in a driveway tragedy in Melbourne's west.

The woman, aged in her fifties, was visiting her elderly father at his Albanvale home just after lunchtime today.

She pulled into the driveway and did not see the 84-year-old man.

He was gardening and bent down on his hands and knees when the vehicle struck him with such force that he died instantly.

Neighbours say the man has lived in the area for more than 30 years.

They say he loved his garden and was seen most days out in the front yard tending to his plants.

A neighbour said he could hear screaming and ran over to help, but nothing could be done to save the elderly man.

"She was yelling 'I've killed my dad', quite a few times she repeated that," he told Seven News.

"She was lying on the floor and almost hitting her head on the floor in anger."

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
