Unusual hay bale built at Aussie farm

Holy cow! And you thought Hump Day had been and gone.

This unusual hay bale statue, depicting...ahem...a bull making love to a cow, has prompted a few giggles but raised several eyebrows too.

Bruce Cook erected the unusual piece of artwork on his farm at Lake Charm, near Kerang, and it has, unsurprisingly, attracted lots of interest.

"We put it up Good Friday and on the Saturday cars and trucks were pulling up to have a look and take pictures," he told the Weekly Times. "It's become quite a tourist attraction."

While most visitors found the arrangement of hay amusing, police were left seeing red.

After someone complained that it was offensive and lewd, officers called Mr Cook and demanded he take it down.

Mr Cook was apparently told he could be charged under the offences act for displaying an indecent or obscene representation, but he insisted it was a harmless bit of fun.

He has refused to take down his hay art without a court order and is even installing a spotlight to ensure it cannot be missed at night.

"It's only natural. After all, that's how we make little Charolais," Mr Cook said.

In fact, he is already working on a herd of calves to add to the unusual display.

Victoria Police confirmed they have spoken to all parties concerned and were making enquiries.
