Extravagant Toorak mansion up for grabs

Got a wealthy bank balance?

If so, you could be the owner of one of Melbourne’s most extravagant homes.

The four-storey Toorak mansion has just gone on sale but it will set you back more than $10 million.

More like a hotel than a house, it boasts five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a 3D private cinema, and even has its own man cave.

The 'dive-in' cinema, which features an over-sized television perched above a heated outdoor pool, is another draw card for potential buyers.

Real estate agent Anton Wongtrakun said: “You go from room to room and it’s almost like you’re in a palace.”

The luxurious home has only been in the market for two weeks but despite the hefty price tag, 15 potential buyers have already inspected the property, including some overseas investors.

Sold as a single storey home in 2010 for $2.97 million, it took two years for the transformation to take place.

Some neighbours were initially a little disgruntled about having a four-storey block with a five metre fence towering over them but they relented, figuring a place like this will drive their own property prices up too.

Neighbour Susie Stock describes the house as ‘overpowering’.

“I’ve got lots of friends who when they’ve come to visit have said ‘What is that – six flats?’ and I’ve said ‘No, it’s one house’.”

If you are wondering why the owners are willing to sell such a gem, it is because they spend so much time abroad that they wanted someone else to enjoy their modern-day castle.

Dozens of security cameras are dotted around the estate and it is believed to have a secret panic room built in – perhaps a place to hide from your mortgage payments.
