With house prices soaring, this could be the easiest way to own some local real estate.

Melbourne, the world's most liveable city, will be immortalised with its very own Monopoly board, now in its 80th year.

The public can suggest familiar landmarks, locations and streets to appear on the board.

Announcing the plans, Melbourne's Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said: "It's about time the greatest city in the world had a Monopoly Board to reflect the wonderful sights and streets of Melbourne."

Councillor Doyle insists Collins Street should replace the prestigious Park Lane or Mayfair.

Other icons that could be included on the board are Brighton Beach's iconic bathing boxes, the MCG and the city's laneway and cafe culture. In all, there are 22 locations that need to be filled.

Monopoly is the world’s most popular board game and celebrates its 80th anniversary this year.

Business Development Manager Matt Chan said: "To have the Melbourne Monopoly edition on its 80th is a fantastic achievement for us."

Melbourne Monopoly will be available to buy in October.
