Shane's battle to see his children grow up

A young father with stage four melanoma says he will have to sell everything he owns to pay for a new life-saving drug, if it doesn't get government funding.

Shane Rashier is desperately buying time so he can see his children grow up, but his money is running out.

Shane was receiving the drug for free as part of a trial but is no longer eligible and must now pay for his own treatment.

At $10,500 every three weeks, money is running out.

Shane has already been forced to sell his home and next will be the family car as he battles to “do what we can to scrape through”.

Son Jett is his first reason for wanting to buy more time.

“Secondly, I’ve got another one on the way which I would like to see grow up,” Shane said.

Shane’s plea for the drug to be subsidised is a matter of life and death for him and could be a lifeline for many of the 1400 patients who die of melanoma in Australia every year.
