Girl, 10, saves mum's life with Triple 0 call

A quick-thinking primary school student has been rewarded for a split-second decision to phone Triple 0, after her mum started fitting while they were at home.

Ten-year-old Tehya Clarke took swift action when mum, Kerry, collapsed and started convulsing at their home on December 5 last year.

"I was watching a TV show with her and I asked her a question and she didn't answer," Teyha said, choking back tears.

"Mum was shaking."

The student at Dimboola primary school in far western Victorian wasted no time in calling Triple 0.

"She knew how to dial Triple 0. We have always told the kids how to get help because I am often at home alone with them," Kerry, who has no memory of the incident, said.

"I've instilled that in them that they need to call someone if I need help and she did a good thing that night."

The little girl was able to relay information to the emergency operator which saw paramedics arrive in under ten minutes.

Today, Ambulance Victoria recognised Tehya's bravery.

Not only did Tehya's phone call ensure the swift arrival of paramedics, it also taught her school mates an extremely important lesson.

Tehya's parents could not be more proud.

"She did a fantastic job. I'm extremely proud of her and just glad I've let her know what to do," Tehya said.
