Toddler falls onto train tracks at Diamond Creek

A toddler is recovering in hospital after her pram toppled onto train tracks at Diamond Creek in Melbourne's north-east.

7News understands a man was standing on the station platform with his four-year-old grandson and granddaughter, aged between two and three, in a pram.

Somehow the pram rolled towards the edge of the platform and the little girl tumbled about one metre onto the tracks below.

The man and another passerby jumped onto the rail lines to rescue her.

Ambulance Victoria said the toddler suffered facial injuries in the fall and was taken to the Royal Children's Hospital for observation.

Earlier reports suggested the brakes on the stroller had failed.

Metro is investigating the incident.
