Three in Vic court over AFL player affray

Three men have appeared in a Melbourne court over an alleged assault that left AFL player Jeff Garlett with lacerations to his head.

Samuel Gai, 22, of Oakleigh, has been charged with affray and recklessly causing injury following the August incident involving the then Carlton player.

Two other men - Abram Hothnyang and Liep Kuel - charged over the incident also appeared briefly in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Garlett suffered lacerations to his head following an assault outside a bar on Lonsdale Street about 5.10am on August 3.

He has also been charged over the incident and will appear in court on Monday.

The 25-year-old has since left Carlton and signed on to play with Melbourne.

A fourth man arrested in relation to the incident wasn't in court on Tuesday.

The matter was adjourned until December 11.
