Stolen vehicle used in Werribee ram-raid

Bumbling thieves have fled empty handed after an unsuccessful ram-raid on a supermarket in Melbourne's south-west in the early hours of this morning.

Police said the would-be thieves reversed a stolen Ute through the front doors of an IGA store, in Greaves Street, at Werribee, in an attempt to steal from an ATM.

The bandits failed to get away with any money from the machine when their vehicle became wedged between bollards, police said.

It is believed the two empty-handed men then escaped in a second vehicle, a Toyota Hilux parked nearby.

Police say the Ford Ranger utility, with registration ICT 3RP, was stolen prior to the ram-raid.
