Shocking CCTV: Claims parents were drunk when toddler in pram fell on train tracks

The parents of a toddler whose pram toppled onto train tracks at a station in Melbourne's east were drunk, according to reports.

The Herald Sun says police spoke with an alcohol-affected couple after the youngster was rescued.

Terrifying video emerged of the moment the stroller carrying a baby boy rolled onto the tracks at Camberwell Station on Saturday afternoon.

The security vision, released yesterday by Metro, shows a woman, believed to be the child's mother, let go of the stroller for a matter of seconds as she picked something off the floor when the pram rolls over the platform edge and lands on the tracks.

The woman frantically jumps onto the rail line to retrieve the pram and the child who escaped the fall with only minor injuries.

Moments later, bystanders leap onto the tracks to help, preventing a potential tragedy.

One of the Good Samaritans who rushed to the woman's aid was David Phillips.

He spoke to Seven's Sunrise on Wednesday morning saying he was at the station waiting for a train during his lunch break when the incident unfolded.

"She (the child's mother) bent down to pick something up she had dropped and let go of the pram. That's when I started running from the other side of the platform," he said.

"I knew I had a minute before my train was due. I knew nothing was coming in on the other platform, so I just bolted.

"I'd do it again in a heartbeat. My main concern was the child's welfare."

As a reward for his heroics, David Koch offered Mr Phillips, an avid Port Adelaide fan, free tickets to this weekend's finals clash.
