Vic gourmet supplier ordered to pay up

A Melbourne gourmet food company has been ordered to pay almost $20,000 to workers it underpaid.

Kanodia Nominees Pty Ltd, trading as Glendal Foods, underpaid 17 employees between 2010 and 2012.

Fair Work Australia inspectors found the workers were paid below their base minimum rates, overtime rates and annual leave loading.

Some also did not receive paid rest breaks when working more than an hour and a half of overtime.

The company further failed to keep correct employment records, and kept false records for several employees.

But Fair Work Australia said the company co-operated during the investigation, and made efforts to rectify the underpayments.

The company must apologise to each affected staff member and in future comply with all workplace laws.
