Match-fix soccer players to plead guilty

Two English soccer players accused of fixing matches when they played in the Victorian Premier League will plead guilty to some charges, a Melbourne court has heard.

David Obaze, 25, and Nicholas McKoy, 24, were originally charged with fixing five games when they played with the Southern Stars Football Club in 2013.

Prosecution lawyer Tom Gyorffy QC told the Melbourne Magistrate Court on Wednesday that the pair had agreed to plead guilty to fixing three games - against the Oakleigh Cannons, Green Gully and Richmond.

Guilty pleas would be formally entered at a later date, he said.

The Southern Stars won just one of their 21 games in the semi-professional league.

Obaze will next appear in court to plead on July 17, while McKoy will appear on September 22.
