Brave young Magpie ticks off bucket list

Brave young Magpie ticks off bucket list

A courageous Melbourne boy has done what many couldn't - ousted Eddie McGuire as Collingwood president, and taking over the reins for one day.

Peter Gourlay took the club's top job as part of a 'bucket list' of wishes granted as he battles cancer.

Today, the four-year-old and his twin brother, Daniel, got to meet their favorite player and sporting hero, Jesse White - an encounter neither one of them will forget.

Not only a special moment for the boys, but also their mother, Meredith.

"In time, we can look back and say these were the good times," she said.

Peter has been battling cancer since he was 18-months-old.

Now, doctors say he has just weeks to live.

"It's heart breaking but the one thing you hope to do as a football club and as a community, is just give a little bit of brightness at a dark time in peoples' lives," said Eddie McGuire.

Peter has had a series of bucket list wishes come true, including a magic show and hot rod rides.

"It's good to watch him enjoy himself," Meredith said. "We won't have much time to do that because the pain is increasing."

Today was a rare opportunity to be a regular four-year-old boy and to give Daniel enduring fond memories of his twin.

"The hardest part is after Peter leaves, I still have to celebrate Daniel's birthday, and every year remember how precious Peter was," Meredith said.

The bucket list experiences for Peter continue tomorrow - he will get a taste of what high school is like in the morning.

"We've made some really awesome memories this past month," Meredith said. "It has been amazing."
