Car ploughs into Melton house

A man has had a remarkable escape after a car smashed into his lounge room in Melbourne's west last night.

Mario Muzzi had just got off the couch when the car came crashing through the lounge room wall of his Tandara Court home, Melton, around 8pm last night.

The vehicle came precariously close to where he had been sitting only a few minutes earlier.

"There was an incredible bang," he told 7News. "I thought the front of my house had fallen off or a plane had fallen out of the sky, it was unbelievably loud.

"Myself and partner ran to the front of the house and there was a headlight coming through the front of the window.

"The car hit the couch that I sit on to watch TV so it's lucky I went to check my emails at that time and I'm here to talk about it.

"Five minutes earlier I had been sitting on that couch."

Neighbour Kahn Kathju was at home and heard what he thought was a clap of thunder before going to investigate.

"We came out and it was all pitch black. I walked towards the house and there was smoke everywhere," he said.

"The car had gone into the living room pretty much...you couldn't see any brake lights so he's driven straight in."

The driver allegedly tried to escape the scene, but neighbours held him to the ground until police arrived.

Police say the driver, believed to be in his late thirties to early forties, was not hurt and is expected to be charged with drink driving.

Yesterday, a woman was in bed when a car came crashing into her home at Dandenong North, screeching to a halt within 30cm of her bed.
