An elderly driver has sparked a fiery chain reaction after he ploughed his vehicle into three other cars at a supermarket car park in Melbourne's south-east.
Seven News understands the man, whose age police are yet to confirm, was attempting to park outside the IGA, off Centre Road, in Bentleigh when he lost control.
His Ford Sedan slammed into a parked vehicle, which caught fire, and then set alight two other vehicles.
Melbourne Fire Brigade commander Rob Dean said the elderly driver became trapped in his burning car, but was dragged to safety by a passing delivery driver.
Rescue authorities were quick to respond to the chaotic scenes, and say it is incredibly lucky the man's disabled passenger, nor the drivers of the other vehicles, were injured or killed in the incident.
Commander Dean praised the actions of the passing motorist, and is considering recommending him for a bravery award.
"That gentleman's done a fantastic job, and I've got no doubt that if the gentleman wasn't able to get out he would have perished in the fire," Commander Dean said.
It took more than an hour for fire crews to bring the blaze under control causing major disruptions to traffic on Centre Road.
Police are investigating the cause of the incident.
