Knife-wielding bandits rob taxi driver

Two knife-wielding thugs are being hunted over the alleged hold-up of a taxi driver in Melbourne's east.

Police say the taxi driver picked up the two men on Saturday 10 November from Brunswick St, Fitzroy about 10:15pm.

The men handed over cash for a pre-paid fare.

Police say when the taxi driver woke the men to give them their change on arrival at Belgrave, he was pushed to the ground and threatened with a large kitchen knife.

Both men, believed to be Caucasian and of average build, fled the scene with an amount of cash.

Detectives have released CCTV images of men they believe can assist with their enquiries.
