Two killed after drilling rig incident

Two men have been killed in an industrial accident aboard a drilling rig in Bass Strait, off Warrnambool.

The incident happened shortly after 9.15am, about 90 kilometres south of Warrnambool, but it remains unclear how the men died.

The rig, the Stena Clyde, has been working in the Otway Basin since March searching for natural gas on behalf of Origin Energy.

It's due to leave by the end of the year.

All operations on the rig have been suspended.

The Victorian Government agency responsible for offshore drilling has begun an investigation.
