Vic woman guilty over family's fire deaths

A woman will plead guilty to charges over a house fire that killed a Melbourne couple and their three-week-old daughter.

Jenny Hayes was initially charged with murder and arson causing death over the Point Cook blaze that killed Abbey Forrest, 19, her partner Inderpal Sohal, 28, and their baby Ivy on December 2, 2020.

The murder charges have been dropped and she will plead guilty to three charges of arson causing death, the Victorian Supreme Court heard on Wednesday.

Ms Forrest and Mr Sohal moved in to the Point Cook townhouse with their 19-day-old daughter just weeks before the fatal blaze.

Their remains were found in the ashes.

Hayes will return to court to be arraigned later this month, before a pre-sentence hearing.
