Vic serial killer wants tarot cards

Victoria's worst serial killer has asked a court to force a prison to give him tarot cards on the basis he has a right to practise his pagan religion.

Paul Steven Haigh appeared before the Victorian Supreme Court via video link on Wednesday for a directions hearing after he launched legal action against Barwon Prison for removing cards from his pack of tarot cards.

Counsel for Corrections Victoria, Debra Coombs, said the cards were removed because they were considered "inappropriate and objectionable" and asked Justice Tim Ginnane not to release copies of the cards to Haigh as he prepares his legal challenge.
