Vic rights commissioner's partner charged

The husband of Victoria's human rights commissioner has reportedly been charged with assault at a licensed premises in Melbourne.

Jack Panton, the husband of Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner Kristen Hilton, is alleged to have been involved in an incident at the Black Rock Bowling and Tennis Club at an AFL grand final function, Fairfax Media reports.

In a statement, Victoria Police said a 42-year-old man had been charged with unlawful assault and failing to leave a licensed premises at Black Rock on September 30.

He is expected to appear in Moorabbin Magistrates Court on Thursday.
