Vic police probe attempted copper theft

Police are investigating an attempted theft of copper during a burglary in Port Melbourne.

A dog squad was called in to search an abandoned factory on Todd Road just after 7am on Tuesday, following reports of an alarm going off.

Police said there was copper piping inside the vacant property.

After an extensive search, no arrests were made, but police say an investigation is ongoing.

"Local police, with the assistance of the Dog Squad, searched the building and were unable to locate anyone," Victoria Police said in a statement.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
