Vic police officer charged with assault

A Victorian police officer is accused of assaulting a person with a weapon while on duty.

The 61-year-old leading senior constable from the southern region was charged with unlawful assault and assault with a weapon following an internal investigation.

The charges relate to an incident while the officer was on duty at Nobel Park on August 4 last year.

He has been summonsed to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates Court in November.
