Mystery surrounds the suspected abduction of a woman from a park in Melbourne's west more than six years ago.

While Victoria Police are still trying to determine what happened, they have been told a man grabbed the woman in Cindia Crescent at Ecoville Park in Tarneit on the Saturday of the Queen's Birthday weekend in 2017.

"Investigators have been told the woman was restrained by her wrists before it is believed she was put in the back of a grey Ford Ranger utility," police said in a statement on Tuesday.

Detectives are trying to identify the woman involved, after some children who claimed to have witnessed the incident recently came forward with information.

So far, officers haven't been able to find any correlating missing person reports and are appealing to the public for information.

Police believe a woman with blonde hair and a pram may have been walking in the area at the time.

The reported victim is of African appearance and police have released a composite image of her and an image of the car believed to be involved.
