Vic officer charged with animal cruelty

A Victorian police protective services officer has been suspended from duty after being charged with a range of offences, including assault and animal cruelty.

Police allege the 33-year-old male officer, from Transit and Public Safety Command, committed several offences in separate incidents last year while off-duty.

Following an internal investigation, he has been charged with criminal damage, cruelty to an animal, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, eight counts of assault-related offences and eight counts of contravening court orders.

He has been bailed to appear at court on a later date.
