A Melbourne man has been charged over a dozen stolen guns that were allegedly discovered by traffic police who pulled over a ute for a routine check.
Officers found a safe and a toolbox allegedly containing 12 stolen guns when they pulled over two men in a Toyota Hilux at Meadow Heights on Wednesday afternoon.
One of the men, Richard Flower, was charged with 45 offences, including possessing a traffickable quantity of unregistered firearms.
Two more guns, along with a Taser, were also allegedly found when police carried out search warrants after the arrest.
Flower, 46, faced Melbourne Magistrates Court for a brief filing hearing on Thursday and his mother was present in court in support.
The magistrate heard Flower, from Coolaroo, takes prescription medications and will need these in custody.
Flower did not apply for bail and he was remanded to return on August 23 for a committal mention.
The other man, also aged 46, was released without charge.
