Vic Lib MP Thompson to retire at 2018 poll

Long-serving Victorian Liberal MP and former Richmond footballer Murray Thompson will retire from state parliament at the 2018 election.

Mr Thompson, a former barrister and solicitor, played for the Tigers in the VFL from 1973 to 1976, and has been the member for Sandringham since 1992.

"Murray's steadfast friendship, sage advice and continual composure will be greatly missed around the corridors of parliament by all members, particularly myself," Opposition Leader Matthew Guy said on Tuesday.
