A 15-year-old girl has faced a Melbourne court following a hit-and-run crash that killed a recently-married couple.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with helping 19-year-old Eric Victorsen avoid police apprehension after the pair allegedly stole a $170,000 four-wheel-drive, driving at "horrendous speeds" on April 21.

It is claimed the pair, speeding through Wantirna South, ran a red light and crashed into a sedan, killing its occupants.

Matt Goland, 38, died at the scene and his wife Bita Zaeim, 32, died in hospital.

The girl faced a children's court on Monday via video link, with a magistrate urging lawyers to expedite her case, saying she was concerned about the matter being delayed given the girl's age.

The girl has been charged with two counts of assisting Victorsen "by attempting to impede his apprehension" and one count of stealing a 2016 Lexus station wagon.

The court was told there was no application to have the matter heard in a higher court.

The magistrate remanded the teen in custody to reappear on June 4 for lawyers to update the court on the case's progress.
