Vic court OKs $10.5m bushfire settlement

The Victorian Supreme Court has approved a $10.5 million bushfire settlement.

A $10.5 million settlement has been approved for more than 30 claimants who alleged AusNet's negligence to keep trees clear of powerlines caused a bushfire in Victoria's Gippsland region.

Lead plaintiff Irwin James Ramsay brought the action against AusNet and BJ Murphy, hired by AusNet, for losses suffered due to a bushfire near Jack River on February 9, 2014.

Supreme Court Justice Karin Emerton approved the settlement on Friday as fair and reasonable.
