More than 900,000 illegal cigarettes with an estimated value of $1.026 million have been seized in Melbourne's east.

Police intercepted a truck in a Dingley car park on September 2 after seeing two men acting suspiciously.

The officers searched the truck and found the 907,000 illegal cigarettes.

A 40-year-old Mitcham man and a 32-year-old man from Hurstville in NSW were both arrested at the scene.

They were later charged with negligently dealing with the proceeds of crime and possessing tobacco products with the intent of defrauding revenue of the Commonwealth.

Both men have been bailed to appear before the Moorabbin Magistrates Court in November.
