The man found the copperhead snake in the laundry room located next to his bedroom at a Chester, Va., apartment building
A man in Virginia who just wanted to do laundry in his apartment ended up facing a life-or-death situation.
According to Virginia Wildlife Management and Control, the wildlife removal company was called out to an apartment building in Chester, Va., on Sept. 17 to help a man who found a copperhead — a venomous species of snake found in parts of North America — on top of his washer and dryer while doing laundry in the room next to his bedroom.
"Tuesday evening and we're out getting a #venomous #copperhead off of a young man's washer & dryer, at an apartment complex, out in #Chester, #Virginia!… We never know what we're gonna get called out to!" Virginia Wildlife Management and Control posted about the job on Facebook.
Per the Miami Herald, the company told McClatchy News that before professionals arrived to remove the snake, the man who spotted it narrowly avoided being bitten by the reptile.

When wildlife removal professionals arrived, the over 2-foot snake had moved from the washing machine and was lounging on a pile of clothes on top of the dryer. Perry, who responded to the emergency call about the snake, recorded a video of the incident and included it in Virginia Wildlife Management's Sept. 17 Facebook post. The video has been viewed over 525,000 times.
"I don't even believe this, and I've been doing this for many, many years," Perry says of the situation in the clip. The manager's footage shows the copperhead resting on top of the dryer while Perry explains the circumstances.
According to the video, the man who spotted the snake had no idea it was venomous until Virginia Wildlife Management informed him.

In a follow-up Facebook post, the company also shared several photos of the snake on the laundry machines, including a shot of the reptile coiled on the washer.
Virginia Wildlife Management also commented on the update post with a photo of an open hole on the outside of the apartment building where the snake was found, writing along with it, "Good morning everyone, here's the answer to your question about how the venomous copperhead entered the young man's bedroom and ended up on his washer and dryer."
The company removed the snake from the apartment without injuring any people or reptiles.
