Ute flies off Qld overpass, lands on cars

A ute has flown off a highway overpass and landed on top of two sedans north of Brisbane, leaving two people trapped.

Police say it's amazing that no one was killed when the ute came off the overpass and plunged onto two cars below, leaving their roofs crushed.

The ute also hit a third car on the ground but photos from the scene suggest that vehicle wasn't badly damaged.

Paramedics took two people to hospital after emergency crews carried out difficult operations to extract them from the wreckage.

One motorist was taken to hospital in a serious condition while the other has minor injuries.

The driver of the ute is understood to have suffered shock but little else.

The bizarre crash happened on Pumicestone Road about 8.30am and specialist police are trying to understand how the ute came to be airborne.
