'Great compassion and kindness': Police officer's kind act for man in broken wheelchair

A police officer has been praised for showing “great compassion and kindness” for a man in a broken down electric wheelchair.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office, which is based in Florida, wrote on Facebook on Tuesday that Deputy Danny Garciapagan came across a man whose wheelchair wasn’t working.

It was 32 degrees outside.

“He pushed the chair (and man) uphill into a church for refuge, got in touch with the man’s insurance to get him a new chair and arranged transportation home,” police wrote.

The post has since been shared 2,800 times with people praising the police officer.

“Thank you for helping this gentleman who was in dire need of assistance and relying on the kindness of others,” one man wrote.‬

One woman called Deputy Garciapagan a “wonderful man”.

“Now that’s going above and beyond,” she wrote.

“Thank you for your wonderful service Deputy Garciapagan.”

Another woman labelled the deputy a “wonderful role model”.
