US Election: Joe Biden pulls ahead in crucial state of Georgia

Joe Biden’s bid to become the next US President has received an enormous boost after taking the lead in a state crucial to the outcome of the US election.

With 99 per cent of the vote counted in Georgia, Biden has taken the lead in the state from US President Donald Trump, according to The Associated Press.

A win in Georgia would all but ensure Biden, who served as vice-president under Barack Obama, wins the election.

He needs 270 electoral votes to take the presidency and currently has 264.

Georgia is worth 16.

Biden’s lead is a slender one though. With one per cent of Georgia’s vote to be counted, Biden leads Trump by just over 900 votes.

Trump continues to claim the election is being "stolen" from him.
