Urgent recall on stroller after fears handlebar could fall off
A stroller sold across Australia has been recalled due to missing screws, posing a “fall hazard” for a child.
Product Safety Australia is urging consumers to check to see if their Thule Sleek Stroller is subject to the recall which was issued on Thursday.
According to the recall, two screws which secure the handlebars to the frame of the stroller may be missing, which could cause the handlebar to detach from the frame.
“If the handlebar detaches from the frame, there is a risk of injury to the child,” Product Safety Australia said.
The strollers were sold in Australia from 1 January 2019 until 31 August 2020 and models affected have the model numbers 11000001 - 11000019.
Product Safety Australia is urging people to check the model number, which is which is printed in the lower part of the stroller’s frame.
It is advised consumers with a one of the affected strollers to immediately stop using it.
“At the Thule Group we take product quality very seriously and product safety is our top priority. We conduct extensive testing to ensure that our Thule products meet all global industry and regulatory standards,” Thule said on its website.
“Unfortunately, we have identified a risk of the handlebar potentially detaching from the Thule Sleek stroller frame, posing a fall hazard for the child.”
The company said the stroller “manages all structural integrity tests” according to the standards and stressed the importance of consumer safety to the company.
“The safety and well-being of our customers and their families is of utmost importance for us at Thule and it's our policy to act whenever we identify potential risks for injury, or are made aware of them – even if the likelihood of this occurrence is limited,” Thule said.
“As such, the Thule Group has decided to do a voluntary recall of the Thule Sleek strollers produced between May 2018 through September 2019.
“Units produced October 2019 and thereafter are not affected by this recall and can be continuously used.”
Consumers with strollers missing the screws can register to receive a replacement stroller frame, free of charge.
