Urgent recall for 31,000 Kia SUVs over fire risk

Kia has issued an urgent recall on more than 31,000 SUVs.

The safety recall applies to Sorento models built between 2014 and 2020 and Sportage models built between 2015 and 2021.

In both vehicles, a software issue could cause the Heater Core Element to operate at a higher temperature than usual, which could cause damage to the connector.

This may result in a vehicle fire with an increased risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants or other road users.

Those affected can contact their local Kia dealership to schedule an appointment to have the HVAC control unit software updated and affected parts inspected and replaced free of charge if damaged.
