Urgent egg recall over fears of salmonella contamination

An urgent recall has been issued over a popular brand of eggs due to salmonella contamination.

The NSW Health Authority urged consumers who purchased Southern Highland Organic Eggs with a best before date up to May 9 to not eat them and return them to the place of purchase.

The eggs, either in six or 12 packs, are sold at Woolworths in NSW ands Victoria, IGA in NSW and other independent retailers in NSW.

The eggs may be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis which could cause illness if consumed.

Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice,” a NSW Health Authority statement read.

Customers can receive a full refund in store.

Symptoms of salmonella include fever, headache, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting.

Symptoms usually start around six to 72 hours after the contaminated food is eaten and usually last for four to seven days but can continue for much longer.
