Police have begun investigations after a boy was filmed riding on the windscreen of a car in Melbourne.

The young child was filmed clinging onto the front of a grey hatchback on Greendale Boulevard in Pakenham, a suburb in Melbourne’s southeast.

In footage shared on Sunday, the child then climbs back into the car through the sunroof.

One witness said prior to the car surfing incident, a second child was also seen climbing out of the car’s sunroof earlier in the day.

Speaking to Today, the man said he was so concerned for the boy, he blocked off the car before confronting the female driver.

“I felt sorry for the children and I knew there were a risk ’cause if she hit the brakes, he could easily have slid off that bonnet and gone under the wheels and he wouldn’t be here today,” he told the program.

Victoria Police said it would be making further inquiries after receiving a report of “an unrestrained child” riding on the bonnet of a vehicle.
