Ms de Simone was giving a lecture via Zoom before she died and, according to Argentine newspaper La Nacion, she collapsed during her presentation.

She had reportedly told students she had trouble breathing. One student asked if she could help her and asked for Ms de Simone’s home address to which she replied: “I can’t”.

Ms de Simone then collapsed.

She had symptoms of COVID-19 for four weeks leading many to question why she was still teaching given her deteriorating condition.

In an online blog, students paid tribute to her.

“As students we know that a semester flies by, and that there are few teachers with whom bonds are formed in such a short time,” one woman said.

“We are going to miss you Pao.”
