Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has lost about 512,420 of its troops, including 1,290 over the past day, according to the report of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine posted on Facebook on June 4.

In addition to personnel, the Russian army lost the foillowing equipment in Ukraine:

  • tanks - 7,794 (+15) units

  • armored combat vehicles - 15,020 (+18) units

  • artillery systems - 13,345 (+65) units

  • multiple launch rocket systems - 1,092 (+2) units

  • air defense systems - 827 (+3) units

  • warplanes - 357 (+0) units

  • helicopters - 326 (+0) units

  • UAVs of operational and tactical level - 10,766 (+27) units

  • cruise missiles - 2,268 (+0) units

  • warships/military boats - 27 (+0) units

  • submarines - 1 (+0) units

  • motor vehicles and fuel tankers - 18,228 (+69) units

  • special equipment - 2,211 (+12) units.

Russian losses in the war against Ukraine

The spokesperson for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andriy Kovalyov, clarified on Feb. 27 that Russia’s total losses published by the General Staff consist of two main indicators of losses suffered by the enemy during hostilities. Namely, irrecoverable losses and combat sanitary losses of the enemy.

Prior to that, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russian losses amounted to 180,000 killed and up to 500,000 wounded.

Russia suffers 85% of its losses on the eastern front, Nazar Voloshyn, a spokesman for the Khortytsia operational-strategic troop grouping, said on April 25. This applies to both personnel and equipment.

According to French estimates, Russia has already lost 500,000 of its soldiers in the war against Ukraine, French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné said on May 3.
