Man accused of murdering wife 'forced her to swallow wedding ring'

A jealous husband who allegedly stomped his estranged wife to death ordered her to swallow her wedding ring hours before, a court heard.

Shaun Dyson is accused of murdering Lucy-Anne Rushton, 30, after paramedics discovered her naked body at her home in Hampshire, UK, in June, the BBC reported.

Simon Jones, of the prosecution, told Winchester Crown Court that the demand was made after Ms Rushton received a phone call from a former partner.

Hours later at 4am, a child in the house woke to “hitting noises” and shouting, he said.

"Whatever the history, there was no justification for raining blow after blow, kick after kick, stamp after stamp," Mr Jones said.

"This was borne out of a jealous rage in a violent man,” he added, according to The Independent.

Ms Rushton suffered broken ribs, a broken breastbone and punctured lungs, according to a post-mortem examination.

The 28-year-old defendant admits Ms Rushton’s manslaughter but denies murdering her.

Mr Jones said family and friends had witnessed a series of previous cases of domestic violence, describing their relationshop as “toxic”.

The jury was also shown CCTV, which according to Jones, showed Dyson kicking, punching and spitting on Ms Rushton in a hotel corridor.

She later denied any abuse when police arrived.

The jury was told Dyson called police and was “strikingly calm” on the phone, following the alleged murder.

He later disappeared however police found him hiding in a bedroom cupboard, the jury heard.

He told police, friends and family that Ms Rushton had died from drowning when throwing water on her and that marks on her neck were from rough sex.
