'Too far': Man's horrific injuries after 'boiling butter' incident in elite kitchen

WARNING - GRAPHIC CONTENT: A chef working at a luxury hotel has spoken out about horrific abuse he claims occurred in the kitchen leading to him being hospitalised.

Nathan Davies, 22, worked at Calcot Manor – also known as Calcot and Spa, about 160km west of London – and shared photos of his graphic injuries on Instagram.

“I’ve been working at Calcot Manor for two years and after ignoring the constant burning, punches (some causing black eyes) and being forced to eat items ranging from rabbit s*** to raw chicken... jokes went a bit too far when I was scalded and hospitalised due to someone pouring boiling butter down my trousers,” he wrote.

“Everyone should be careful working in kitchens and not take abuse or anything similar to what I’ve experienced in case it ends up like this.”

He added he had also suffered infections from his injuries.

In a statement to The Telegraph, Calcot Manor said it was shocked by what happened to Mr Davies, but denied a wider culture of bullying.

“Our ongoing investigations with the team lead us to strongly believe that this is an isolated incident,” it said.

“As yet, we have found no evidence of this wider culture, but our enquiries continue today and if we find anything that can be corroborated, we will act immediately as we have done so previously.”

In a statement on Facebook, the hotel added the member of staff responsible for Mr Davies’ injuries “was immediately disciplined and dismissed at the time and he has not set foot in the kitchen since the incident several weeks ago”.

Calcot was named Pride of Britain’s Hotel of the Year 2019 in April.
