Uber Eats driver attacked by gang while delivering food
An Uber Eats driver in Perth has been bashed so badly in an unprovoked attack he has lost vision in one eye.
Ivan Jonatahir was assaulted by a teenage gang while trying to deliver food to a house in Booragoon one week ago. The attack is the latest in a spate of shocking assaults on drivers.
Mr Jonatahir was on his scooter, about to drop off some food, when a dozen teenagers made the 37-year-old their target.
They smashed him in the eye with a blunt weapon, but somehow the rider managed to stay on his scooter and rode until it was safe to stop.
The delivery driver said he doesn’t know why the gang mobbed and bashed him.
“I feel so scared, very very scared,” Mr Jonatahir told 7 News.
“I just want my sight [to] get back.”
He thought he’d lose his eyeball, but doctors were able to save it. What he doesn’t know is if he’ll ever see through it again and he will find out when an ultrasound is done next week.
Mr Jonatahir wants his attackers caught, but says he forgives them.
The attack came a month after rideshare driver was bashed blind by two customers on Boxing Day.
