Two Queensland teens charged after missing Uber driver’s body found

Police have charged two teenagers with the murder of their Uber driver after his body was discovered near a boat ramp on the Fraser Coast in Queensland.

Scott Cabrie, 47, had been missing for almost a week after he was last seen leaving his property in Toogoom on February 6 at about 6pm, 9 News reported.

His car was found burnt out the following day near Wieland Road in Pacific Haven before friends reported him missing to police on February 10, describing his disappearance as “very out of character”.

A large-scale search was launched involving officers, drone technology, water police and SES volunteers before Mr Cabrie’s body was found near the boat ramp on Powerhouse Road in Howard, about 20 minutes from his home, at 11.30am on Sunday.

Hours later, police arrested an 18-year-old Sunshine Acres man. He’s been charged with murder, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, arson, armed robbery and deprivation of liberty – unlawfully detain. A 17-year-old Pacific Haven man has also been charged with murder, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, arson, robbery and deprivation of liberty.

Uber driver on the job when killed

Speaking to media on Monday, police say Mr Cabrie was on the job and driving the men around when the two teens allegedly tried to rob him.

“Police believe there were three people that were picked up and two of those people have been charged," Detective Acting Superintendent Darrin Shadlow said, ABC reported.

“It’s shocking to have any sort of violent crime of this nature but for a 17 and 18-year-old [to be charged] yes it probably does bring another level to it.”

The older of the pair appeared in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court today and made no application for bail, according to the ABC, while the younger man is expected to face the Hervey Bay Children’s Court tomorrow.

As investigations continue, police are still appealing for anyone who may have information or dashcam footage of Mr Cabrie’s blue 2017 Nissan X-Trail, with the registration number 675YVF on Torbanlea Pialba Road between 11pm and midnight on Monday February 7 to get in touch.
