A man charged with stabbing his grandmother to death and killing a retired police officer on the NSW south coast has been denied bail.
Murray Deakin, 20, allegedly stabbed his grandparents at their Bega home on Friday afternoon. His grandmother did not survive.
While fleeing the scene he allegedly attempted to carjack Mick Horne, 54, who was struck in the head with a hammer.
Mr Horne, a distinguished retired police officer, died on Sunday afternoon.
Deakin's grandfather remains in hospital.
The 20-year-old, who was apprehended after a manhunt, did not apply for bail and it was formally refused at Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday.
He was charged with a second count of murder as he appeared in court.
He is expected before the same court again on August 7.
